Since 1968, the POW Swim Club has been a cornerstone of our community, fostering a positive and supportive environment where swimmers of all levels can thrive. We are a collaborative team of passionate parents, volunteers, coaches, and swimmers, dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for both competitive and non-competitive athletes. Our mission is to build confidence in the water, support individuals in reaching their full potential, and provide a nurturing environment where all athletes, regardless of background or experience, can thrive and excel.Whether you’re just starting your swimming journey or looking to enhance your skills, our comprehensive program promotes growth, teamwork, and a love for the sport. We blend a dynamic, summer-camp-inspired atmosphere into our athletic program, providing swimmers with a well-rounded experience that extends beyond the pool. Along with training, your child will enjoy a variety of team-building activities, social events, and opportunities to engage with their peers, fostering a strong sense of community. Joining the POW Swim Club connects your child with swimmers not just from our local area, but across Vancouver Island and the province. It’s an excellent opportunity for personal growth, meaningful friendships, and for parents to connect with like-minded families. WHEN DOES THE POW SWIM CLUB RUN?
The POW Swim Club operates year-round for both competitive and non-competitive swimmers, focusing on skill development and fun for all. For those interested in competitive swimming, the main competitive season runs from May to August, during which swimmers can participate in competitions, culminating in the Regional Competition to qualify for Provincials.
In addition to the summer season, we offer winter training through our "Ready for Summer" program, designed to help athletes stay conditioned, develop new skills, and maintain progress. This program is aimed at getting youth ready for all summer water activities in the qathet Region, whether it’s swimming in the pool, ocean, lake, or river. POW Swim Club wants to ensure that swimmers are not only competitive but also safe in any body of water.
These off-season opportunities ensure swimmers are prepared for the competitive months and continue to grow year-round. Our year-round programming helps swimmers build a strong foundation, enabling them to perform at their best when it's time to race. Whether you’re focused on summer competition or prefer year-round skill-building, there’s a place for you at POW Swim Club!
MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES AND SUMMER SWIMMING?
At the POW Swim Club, we recognize the importance of supporting multi-sport athletes—those who participate in various sports year-round. Summer swimming is an excellent way for athletes to stay active, improve their overall fitness, and develop essential skills that benefit their performance in other sports. Our comprehensive summer programming is designed to enhance strength, endurance, coordination, and mental focus, all while keeping the experience fun and engaging.
Swimming builds cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and core strength—key elements for athletes in any sport. The POW Swim Club's summer program not only improves swim-specific techniques but also provides cross-training opportunities that can enhance skills like agility, balance, and teamwork, all of which are transferable to other athletic endeavors. Whether you’re a runner, soccer player, or involved in any other sport, swimming offers a low-impact, full-body workout that supports injury prevention and boosts performance.
Additionally, the club’s team-building activities and community spirit foster valuable life skills such as discipline, goal-setting, and time management, which are essential for success in any athletic pursuit. The BC Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA) is our governing body, dedicated to the development of athletes and volunteers in British Columbia through participation in aquatic sports. BCSSA offers opportunities for involvement in speed swimming, diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming. The association works through its member clubs to provide training, competition, and community activities across BC and surrounding areas. BCSSA helps athletes not only develop their competitive skills but also gain valuable life skills.
