2023 Summer coaches
Alex Jevons - Head Coach
Alex recently celebrated her 10th year as a swim coach. Her journey began January 2013 as a volunteer coach for the Squamish Pirates Summer club. She continued as the Junior Assistant Coach and swam for the Pirates until 2017, earning accomplishments like qualifying for four BCSSA Provincials and making the provincial podium three years in a row. Once graduated high school, she moved to Prince George to attend UNBC, where she recently graduated with a Bachelors of Science with Honours in Psychology and a minor in General Business. While in Prince George she coached and swam with the Swim BC Prince George Barracudas for four years and she still holds the club record for 50 metre backstroke. In the summers, she would coach for the Powell River Aquatic Club, and was the Assistant Coach in 2018 and 2019, and the Head Coach in 2021. Throughout Alex's coaching journey she has earned qualifications like her NCCP Level 1, National Lifeguard certification, and Water Safety Instructor. She has also attended three BCSSA Coaching Conferences and three Swim BC North East Regional Training Camps, along with continuing her NCCP recertification by recently earning 20 Professional Development Training Hours. Swimming is still a passion for Coach Alex, she recently competed in the 2023 Prince George IceMan Challenge, as the swimmer for the PAFN team, who raised $1000.00 for building an accessible playground in Prince George. She is excited to be supporting POW for the rest of 2023 season and hopes that she can pass along her passion of swimming to the next generation of swimmers and coaches. |
Hannah Giesbrecht - Assistant Coach
Hi my name is Hannah Giesbrecht and I started swimming with Pow in 2014 and my love for competitive swimming has continued to grow since then. I hope I can share my love of competitive swimming with all the swimmers this year. I junior coached for POW last summer and I realized how much I love coaching. I am also the substitute coach for West coach Wind. I am so excited about this summer and I can't wait to meet all the swimmers. I have taken my WSI and I will be taking my NL at the end of march. I have enrolled in my NCCP level 1. I am looking forward to an amazing season and I am so excited to meet everyone. |

I started by volunteer coaching in 2019, and in 2022 I was a junior assistant coach. This year I'm excited to be the assistant coach for the senior and intermediate groups, and to be given an opportunity to get my NCCP coaching certification. |
2023 winter maintenance coach
Megan Greig
Certified Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor, Swim Club Mom, now your fall maintenance coach. I grew up in the pool and my family also has a competitive swim background. My grandparents had an indoor swimming pool, where I learned to swim and dive. I joined The Powell River Porpoises Swim Team in 1999. I was at the pool every summer, fall and winter for practice. I have over 8 years of experience teaching all age groups the basics, water safety skills, and improving their strokes. I am happy to share my knowledge and love for competitive swimming. I look forward to helping the POW Team achieve their swimming goals this fall and winter. |
