LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT
The Powell River Aquatic Club is excited to announce we will be joining Swim Clubs across British Columbia and Canada in bringing the Long Term Athlete Development program to the club.
What is Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD)?
Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) is about optimal skill development, training, competition and recovery throughout an athlete’s career, particularly in relation to the important growth and development years.

What does this mean for my child for the upcoming 2020 season?
POW will be changing the groupings of our athletes to better fit the LTAD programming for Swimming as put forth by Swimming Canada. Groups will concentrate on keeping our swimmers with their peer groups so there will be some movement in groupings. Our grouping names are also changing to better fit our new plan! We anticipate some bumps and challenges with these changes, but anticipate that overall this will be as successful for POW as it has been in clubs across Canada.

- 2. To identify gaps in the current swimmer development path;
- 3. To realign and integrate programs for developing swimmers and swimming in British Columbia;
- 4. To provide a planning tool, based on scientific research, for coaches, parents and administrators
- 5. To guide planning for optimal performance
